holiday tips for fire safety and prevention

Did you know that Scentsy was founded on the very principle of safety- candle safety, specifically? Our wickless, flameless candles, heated gently in decorative warmers by a low-watt bulb, provide a stylish and safe alternative to traditional candles.

If you do plan to use candles for your Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Year celebrations, please note these 10 safety suggestions to keep your home and family free from the threat of candle-related fire.

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Keep burning candles away from combustibles (curtains, bedding, table runners and clothing).
  • Don’t burn candles in a drafty place. This can cause uneven burning.
  • Keep wicks properly trimmed to ¼ inch each time you burn a candle.
  • Do not burn a candle all the way down.
  • Place candleholders on a sturdy, heat-resistant surface.
  • Do not use candles as a light source in a power outage. Use flashlights.
  • Do not use candles as nightlights.
  • Keep candles, matches and lighters out of the reach of children.
  • Place burning candles at least three inches apart.

These tips are adapted from safety rules provided by the National Candle Association and the U.S. Fire Administration:
